Dans les jardins de l’Alhambra is a concertante work for solo trumpet and concert band (Grade 4), inspired by the timeless beauty of the Alhambra and the evocative colors of Spain.

Moving between lyricism, brilliance and virtuosity, the solo trumpet takes the leading role in a musical story shaped by passion, doubt and freedom. The opening movement unfolds with a tender and elegant melody, suggesting a luminous yet fleeting encounter. A more introspective cadenza creates a moment of rupture before the music moves into a lively second section inspired by the streets and atmosphere of Granada.

Dance rhythms, Spanish accents and lively exchanges between the soloist and ensemble convey the energy of a city where one seeks to forget, celebrate life and find hope again. The work combines expressive lyricism with virtuosic writing for the soloist and colorful concert band textures, leading to an intense finale in which drama and celebration ultimately become one.

The work was premiered in 2018 by the Musique de l’Artillerie, conducted by Laurent Arandel, with Adrien Barrial as trumpet soloist.
